Each month we prepare 130 food parcels for the poor and needy, these parcels are distributed to pensioners, the unemployed, and HIV/AIDS sufferers. Our outreach currently extends to Swartkops River Valley Parish, St Mary’s Cathedral, St Augustine’s Church, Walmer High School, Jerusalem Ministries and ACVV in Gqebera. Members of the Khanyisa Support Group and clients of the Ruth Project each receive a parcel. In addition we aid those who call in at the office on a regular basis. The average amount spent on each parcel is now around R80. We also have bigger food parcels that amount to R250 which are distributed to our AIDS orphans. We are always in need of volunteers to help pack parcels every month and for those who are able to contribute towards the Sunday food basket the items packed in each parcel are as follows:- 25 tea bags, 2 packets of soup, 500g samp, 2 packets of Two Minute noodles, 1 x 200g soya mince, 500g packet of sugar beans, +/- 1kg of sugar, 500g rice, 1kg Mielie rice, 1 tin baked beans, stock cubes. When available a packet of biscuits and jelly is included.
