Act and Pray in the Season of Creation

The Season of Creation, which runs from 1 September through 4 October, is an annual celebration of prayer and action for creation that Christians on six continents have commemorated for years. The theme for this year is “Jubilee for the Earth”!

The Season of Creation was first adopted in 1989 by the Greek Orthodox Church and the concept has rapidly spread to other denominations.

The Anglican Church of Southern Africa has been celebrating the Season of Creation for ten years. The global Anglican Church agreed to promote the Season in 2012 at the Anglican Consultative Council. Last year Pope Francis asked Catholics around the world to celebrate the season and so the Anglican Communion Environmental Network formed a partnership with the Global Catholic Climate Movement, the World Council of Churches and Christian Aid to promote the Season of Creation worldwide. Get on board
As the crisis of climate change and environmental degradation continues to deepen, we must ask ourselves: how do we celebrate the Season of Creation? The invitation is to take our services out of the Church building, be public in our prayer and witness. Do listen to the insights and wisdom of Tim and Isobel Douglas-Jones this Sunday as they are interviewed by Rob. Exciting things are planned for this season to enable us to get on board by being the solution rather than the problem in our fight against the degradation of God’s precious world.

Code Red
Let’s stand up to make a difference in the world in whatever way we are able. Just do not do … nothing! The world has entered an alarm period of ‘Code Red’ with regards Climate Change and the degradation of the planet. Now is the time to get involved.

Much Love,
Rob
