Congratulations to our three new Deacons!

It is with great joy that we celebrate the Ordination to the Diaconate of Michelle Werth, Nizam Kader and Andrew White. The very dignified and worshipful Ordination Service took place at the Parish Church of Christ the King. It was rather special for many of us to be there  – but it was especially significant for me to be present in the same church and on the anniversary date of my ordination to the priesthood 36 years ago. It was good to be renewing my vows and promises as Andrew, Nizam and Michelle made their promises before Bishop Edward. The preacher at the service was Bishop Ossie Swartz who is the retired Bishop of Kimberley and Kuruman. Bishop Ozzie led their retreat at the Willows Holiday Centre.Blessed! This is but a point in time for the three new deacons because, in truth, they have been exercising their respective ministries with faithfulness, dedication and anointing for many years. The Diocese of Port Elizabeth, and St John’s in particular, are very blessed to have leaders of their calibre serving amongst us. Look after them in love and respect for the offering of their lives in service will bring joy and deep ministry to all of us. Special gratitude to Dean Mark Derry who recognized God’s call upon their lives and mentored them in preparation for this day. To God be the glory!!Joy!It is thrilling to see that no further restrictions are to be applied to church gatherings and so we can look forward to worshipping and honouring the Light of Christ come into the world through the baby in the manger – our Saviour, Redeemer and King, Jesus. Our joy begins on Sunday night with the Carol service and continues through the three services over the Christmas weekend. (see the times and dates below) The light that can never be extinguished.May your Christmas remind you of the good news which overcomes the bad news, and bad times, many of you might be going through. It is a season of promise and expectation that the light that came into the darkness will never, ever be extinguished – even to eternal life.Be Blessed,Rob
