I love it when a plan comes together!

Way back in the day – before DSTV and Netflix and endless episodes of gripping series, we used to have the A-Team and Dallas! In fact, Dallas was pretty much as popular in the day as Uncle Cyril’s Family Meetings are today. No-one missed either Dallas or the A-Team and it meant that you simply didn’t even bother to try to make pastoral appointments for Tuesday nights between 19h30 and 20h30 as everyone was glued to the TV screens. But that is by the by and my only reason for raising the memory of the A-Team was to bring to mind the theme-phrase of that series. It was used frequently throughout the show’s five-season run from 1983 to 1986 by the team’s cigar-chomping leader, Colonel John “Hannibal” Smith, played by actor George Peppard. It was: –
‘I love it when a plan comes together!’

Colonel “Hannibal” Smith would use it to express wonder at the way the team could execute a plan and bring it to it’s perfect fruition.
Before I sat down to prepare this offering for you today, I was quietly wondering about God’s plan in this Covid season. A priest in preparing his service for Sunday logged it as the 19th Sunday after Pentecost and the 80th Sunday in Covid-tide. We are at an unprecedented place in world history.

What is God’s plan?
God’s plan for the world is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. I find that incredibly reassuring as a believer.
God knows the journey we are on, and the Lord calls on us to sense his nearness and his embrace even in these tough times. It’s God’s world and God has a plan. Trust in the Lord in these times! Just you wait and see as I know we will be able to look back on these confusing days and utter under our breathe the phrase “I love it when God’s plans come together!!” They always do!

May I end with words of reassurance from the Fisherfolk song ‘Tiptoe’ ..
I walk with you, my children, through valleys filled with gloom; in echoes of starlight – and shadows of the moon. In the whispers of the night wind are gentle words for you to touch you and assure you – it’s my world – you’re walking through.
And God says to me and you – I have your back!
